The $256.5 million sale of the massive San Diego Tech Center in Sorrento Mesa was by far the largest transaction of 2014.
The nine-building, 655,643-square-foot complex on Scranton Road and Barnes Canyon Road is fronted by the “Stargazer” sculpture of Alexander Liberman and features a Japanese garden.
The 38-acre complex was constructed in 1986 and opened as Naiman Tech Center, named for developer Jack Naiman.
The property has been through bankruptcy (1991) and changed ownership several times; for $93 million in early 1998, for $130 million in early 2001, and for $152.5 million in early 2012.
