Whether simple or elaborate, every party needs a theme

Related Special Reports

Regardless of budget, size or location, this year’s hot holiday party needs a theme. Hosting a small, simple affair in your office conference room? It is still worth a trip to your local party store to purchase some festive table and wall decorations. Choosing and committing to a theme will help in coordinating food, drinks, music and entertainment. If you are hosting a bigger event at an offsite venue, you may have access to event planners to help in choosing a creative new theme from which to build your party. With more than 34 years' experience providing unforgettable, flawless events on the water, Hornblower Cruises & Events’ planners have some great recommendations for holiday party themes this year:

Go nautical – ‘Tis the SEAson!
Get out of the traditional banquet room and take your holiday party on the water. Book a Hornblower Cruises & Events cruise and your guests will experience the warm, balmy breezes of San Diego Bay from the comfort of a luxury yacht with breathtaking views of San Diego’s most famous sights. To coordinate the food, consider a seafood bar and chocolate Fantasia-themed dessert buffet. A steel drum band or DJ can set the mood. Welcome guests on board with captain’s hats and a glass of sparkling champagne or tropical rum punch.

Early booking offer: Book your holiday party on Hornblower Cruises & Events by October 30 and get a free DJ for your event.

Go south of the border – Feliz Navidad!
For a festive lunch or evening event, embrace the fun and food of Mexico. Decorate with piñatas and maracas. To get the party started, treat your guests to poinsettia cocktails or margaritas. For food, begin with tortilla chips served in baskets with salsa fresca. For dessert, offer mini bizcochitos and flan tarts. Entertain with a mariachi band, flamenco dancers, or a DJ that gets everyone dancing the Macarena.

Go artistic with a rad hatter, painting or glass etching party
Make your event interactive and social. With a Rad Hatter-themed party, provide guests with all the materials to create their own festive party hat to wear and award silly prizes. Keep with the “Alice in Wonderland” theme by serving mini food selections. For a painting party, hire a professional muralist to provide a pre-designed canvas that your guests can paint throughout the party. The resulting artwork can be hung in the office. Stick to the theme with paint splattered table toppers and food and utensils served in paint cans. For a glass party, guests can draw designs on wine glasses, highball glasses or glass Christmas ornaments to be etched onsite by a professional engraver. In keeping with the glass theme, decorate with glass and ice sculptures.

Go tasting with chocolate, craft brew, whiskey or tequila stations
Set up stations throughout your event so that guests can try different flavors or types of a yummy treat, with décor and food to compliment.
