Swinerton San Diego promotes Terri Schmid to PX of Special Projects Group

Swinerton San Diego is proud to announce the promotion of Terri Schmid to project executive of the Special Projects Group. She has more than 25 years of construction management experience in a variety of different markets, making her the perfect choice to oversee the group’s diverse portfolio.

Focusing on tenant improvement projects under $10 million, the Special Projects Group has recently completed successful jobs in hospitals, universities, midrise condos, data centers, hotels, casinos, theaters, office buildings and restaurants.

Swinerton San Diego’s division manager, Mark Payne, commended her efforts: “Terri has been a tremendous asset to the San Diego division. Her experience, leadership skills and focus on customer service were instrumental in her promotion to lead the Special Projects Group in San Diego.”

With work increasing steadily over the past several years, Schmid’s leadership is vital to the Special Projects Group’s continued growth in the industry. She now heads a team of more than nine project managers, nearly 15 superintendents and seven project engineers. Because they construct multiple projects at once, she helps them excel under fast-track conditions and the pressure of a short schedule.

Teamwork and stakeholder involvement are key components to her management style, as is paying attention to detail and staying on top of all tasks. She takes pride when projects are completed on time with a satisfied owner and instills the same pride in her team for ensuring their success.

“Always do your very best on each project, and strive for repeat business and customer satisfaction,” Schmid said. “Listen and learn at all times on every project and don’t take anything for granted. Document verbal direction and follow-up to eliminate miscommunication. Learn from all issues you experience — and do not repeat them.”

With Schmid onboard as project executive, the future looks bright for the San Diego Special Projects Group. She is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead, and knows lasting success can be achieved with the group’s strong team of professionals supporting her every step of the way.
