Project Design Consultants, a local multiservice design firm, is headquartered in downtown San Diego and provides civil engineering, surveying, planning and landscape architecture services. Founded in 1976, PDC has been part of the local region for almost four decades and has worked on more than 90 projects throughout the downtown area.
Over the last several years, PDC has played in integral part in the transformation of the North Embarcadero; leading the team of the newly completed North Embarcadero Visionary Plan Phase I, and providing civil site design for the Broadway Pier Cruise Ship Terminal improvement project.
PDC’s latest waterfront project is Lane Field North where it is providing preliminary engineering, preliminary site design, and final engineering.
Surrounded by North Harbor Drive, West Broadway and Pacific Highway, Lane Field was originally a baseball field used by the Padres from 1936 to 1957, and since the 1960s was a parking lot for the harbor cruise, cruise ship terminal and general public.
Groundbreaking for the current project took place in May 2014, and when complete the entire site will include two hotels and a public park.
Lane Field North, the first phase of the project includes one hotel and the public park. The hotel, which is currently under construction, will include 400 hotel rooms on 17 floors, a fitness center, swimming pool, and 27,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
The setback park was included in the project as part of an agreement made between the Port and project developer to include more public space on the site. The park will be an approximately 1.5 acre park/plaza adjacent to Lane Field. It was designed to tie into the improvements of the newly constructed NEVP Phase 1 on North Harbor Drive and West Broadway, and will include outdoor seating areas, landscaped areas, a pavilion, public restroom and walkways.
As part of the project agreement, the park was required to be built by the early part of 2015 and is now nearly complete. The hotel for Lane Field North is anticipated to open in 2016.
