Attendees of Golf Fest, a consumer show on the golf industry to be held in Del Mar, will have the chance to compete against famous sports figures in a Beat the Pros contest. This contest with out-of-the-ordinary rules may allow Golf Fest attendees to win against one of their favorite sports figures.
The athletes include: Willie Buchanon, former Charger and Green Bay Packer; Pete Shaw, former Charger and Giant; Harland Svare, former Giant and former Charger's Coach; Gene Locklear, former Padre; Geneva Faulkoner, former LPGA golfer; Avis Brown, LPGA pro; Tina Mickelson, teaching pro; Dave Grayson Jr., former Charger and Brown; Gary Templeton, former Padre; Tim Weatherley, former Raider; and Reggie Grant, former Jet.
"Attendees of all ages will enjoy meeting and competing against their favorite sports pros," said Leslie Beckman, Golf Fest event coordinator. "The Beat the Pros contest will have innovative rules so that some of our attendees will really be able to beat an LPGA Pro."
Golf Fest, presented by Discover Infiniti, will provide the public with the opportunity to see and experience all that the golf industry has to offer, under one roof. The show will feature approximately 125 vendors, including golf equipment manufacturers and clothing companies, club fitters, travel agencies for golf getaways, private and public golf courses, golf magazines and publications and all the top names in golf.
Easy Turf has created the putting green where the contest will be held and Toppoint will be the official ball sponsor.
Select pros will compete at the Beat the Pros area on Friday, March 15 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 16 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.; and Sunday, March 17 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Golf Fest will also offer a free round of golf to the first 1,500 paid attendees each day. The courses include Bajamar Ocean Front Golf Resort in Mexico, Doubletree Golf Resort and Warner Springs Ranch Golf Resort.
"No other golf event offers the consumer blow-out prices on the best names in golf along with the expertise of a representative directly from the manufacturer," said Shelly Hall, Golf Fest co-founder. "Free rounds of golf, seminars, lessons by pros, video analysis, hitting cages, putting contests and more are included in admission. This is a must-see event for every level golfer!"
Other interactive activities for the whole family will also be available. Some of those activities will include professional athlete appearances, a virtual gaming area, fashion shows, hitting cages, seminars and a 19th hole with refreshments.
Golf Fest will be held in the Exhibit Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and event hours are Friday, March 15, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, March 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and children under the age of 12 will be admitted free.
