California Home Care marks a decade of compassion and service

Related Special Reports

A decade ago, California Home Care (CHC) president Margarette Borg recognized a need for affordable, quality home care for San Diegans. Since the beginning, CHC has been committed to providing the most professional care available. Throughout the years, the agency has become recognized as a respected leader in the home care industry. "We're proud to have received the Regional Home Care Council's Caregiver of the Year award for the past three out of five years," she said. Borg says she believes that caregivers' skills, dedication and good communication with clients, families and physicians account for CHC's success. All caregivers are bonded and rigorously screened using a three-point background check. Personal interviews, written tests, thorough reference and license verifications are also vital components in the selection process. Additionally, the agency is one of the few offering credentialed education classes to ensure caregivers remain updated on the most timely information and techniques. "It's absolutely crucial to provide clients with trustworthy, professional and compassionate caregivers," she said. To maintain open communication between clients, families and physicians, CHC provides each client with a Bill of Rights, specifically outlining what individuals can expect from Borg's agency. CHC's nurse manager and client relations director routinely visit clients in their homes. The quarterly newsletter provides medical updates, home care industry news, timely articles, better living and safety tips. "We realize that it can be difficult for families to trust outsiders with their loved one's in-home safety and special needs," Borg said. "That's the reason we have continually focused on making sure clients and their families receive our undivided attention to every detail." California Home Care serves fragile seniors, recuperating patients, homebound individuals and couples, hospice patients, high risk pregnancies, AIDS patients and people with special needs. The agency offers personal care assistance, supervision of medications, light housekeeping and laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, transportation - and just plain companionship. "CHC is excited to be marking our 10-year anniversary this year," Borg said. "We look forward to continuing our mission." The agency is dedicated to providing the finest care available to help its clients achieve the highest level of independence and life satisfaction possible in the home. "We firmly believe there really is no place like home," Borg added. For more information about in-home services, call California Home Care at (619) 521-5858 or (800) 518-2222.
