Doing business for over 25 years, Gould Electric Inc. has become a well-established contractor in San Diego. It maintains an average workforce of over a hundred journeymen and apprentice electricians. Specializing in commercial construction, Gould Electric Inc. operates not only in San Diego but in neighboring counties as well. Employees at all levels are compensated with a fair, competitive wage and provided a variety of benefits such as health, dental, pension and 401(k) plans. Every effort is made to ensure that work is done in a safe and drug free environment. Management requires that all employees are educated in their craft and trained in safe work practices. As do their competitors, Gould Electric, Inc. faces the many problems typical with business these days, from the rising cost of workers compensation, and other types of insurance to hiring problems during a strong economic period to the rising cost of steel products to compliance with safety and labor laws, etc. In order to effectively deal with many of these challenging obstacles, Gould Electric, Inc. has been in partnership with the Associated Builders & Contractors of San Diego, and with its sister chapter in Anaheim Hills, Calif. as well. From the beginning of this relationship several officers of the company have actively supported the growth and stability of these two ABC chapters and frequently utilize the resources they offer. For the past 15 years Gould Electric, Inc. has turned to ABC not only for its apprenticeship training needs but also for a variety of other quality training programs that are available. The importance of safety training has increased the awareness of construction companies and their workers everywhere and Gould Electric, Inc. has been very proactive in implementing this education through ABC. With programs such as the OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour training, operator training for various types of construction equipment and competent person training in areas of confined space, trenching and shoring, fall protection and scaffold erecting, our work force maintains a high level of confidence in their ability to perform the various aspects of their individual responsibilities. California is preparing to implement its "certification of electricians" program, requiring eligible electricians to take and pass a certification test, or be enrolled in an approved training program. Gould Electric, Inc. is motivating its journeymen to get a jump on the inevitable crush as the deadline approaches. Thanks to the certification training classes that ABC provides, Gould is at 80 percent of its goal -- and all new workers are encouraged to enroll in the training program that ABC provides. Thanks to the vision of the Gould Electric, Inc. owners and their partnership with ABC, this company has established a positive reputation in the community. It is recognized by its competition for "fair play" and genuine concern for the health, safety and well being of both employees and the general public.
