The following questions have been developed by ABC to help you assess your company's training culture. Like anything else, this information is only as good as your use and implementation of it is. Experts agree that companies who thrive and prosper in today's market have come to understand the value of training and embrace it in the day-to-day operation of their business. These questions are designed to help owners and managers target the strengths and weaknesses of the organization in maintaining an optimum training culture.

Circle the number that most accurately describes your company's philosophy and utilization of the statement.

5 = Extremely Important - 1 = Not Important at All

Everyone in the company understands and believes in the value of training. Most employees have the attitude that learning is a life-long habit. 5...4...3...2...1

The company has a system for determining training needs. 5...4...3...2...1

The company has a separate training line item in its operating budget. 5...4...3...2...1

There is an overall training plan that matches the budget. 5...4...3...2...1

The company has a designated training manager or someone who is responsible for coordinating training. 5...4...3...2...1

There is a systematic plan in place for training new employees. Promotions and reviews include educational goal setting. 5...4...3...2...1

Training accomplishments are rewarded in some way, including recognition. 5...4...3...2...1

There are written career paths for every position in the company. 5...4...3...2...1

Training is regularly assessed to determine its effectiveness. 5...4...3...2...1

Safety training is an integral part of the overall training plan. 5...4...3...2...1

25 Points or less = More work is needed to develop training culture. 26-39 points or less = Good start! Work to improve items scoring 3 or less. 39 points or more = Great job! Company is on track.

The goal is to be able to circle 4 or 5 for every item. For companies where overall score falls within the mid-range (26-39 points) the above questions will allow you to assess those areas in which your organization needs to focus improvement.
