Erickson-Hall Construction Co. -- People producing safely

Related Special Reports

Erickson-Hall Construction Co.'s training philosophy reflects the viewpoints of our owners Dave Erickson and Mike Hall. People are the most important asset and thus must be valued above all else. While we have both legal and financial obligations to train our people, the most important commitment is the moral obligation to our employees. That being said, in order to stay in business we must produce -- by providing a service and/or a product. Thus we have developed a company motto that fits. On our hardhats, at the bottom of many of our documents, and in the way we do business; we are "People Producing Safely." Erickson Hall Construction provides training to our staff through a variety of resources. We utilize ABC and other associations for both operational and management training as well as safety training classes. In addition, Erickson Hall Construction also has an active in-house training program. For example, once every month EHCC holds a superintendent's meeting at ABC. A portion of each meeting is dedicated to either safety or operational training. Recent meeting topics included scheduling, fall protection, storm water pollution prevention, and productivity analysis among others. All Erickson Hall superintendents at minimum complete the OSHA Outreach 10-hour training and hold CPR-FA cards. Many of our superintendents also go on to hold training or certificate cards in many other areas of construction safety such as confined spaces, excavation and trenching safety, fall protection and others. Erickson Hall Construction has a significant field workforce. Each of our employees receives a new hire orientation as well as a jobsite orientation. Further, EHCC is constantly evaluating training needs and providing training to suit those needs for our field workforce. For example many of our field employees are trained in CPR-FA. Many have taken the OSHA 10-hour and some are competent person level trained in scaffolding, fall protection, and excavation. Employees that operate forklifts and other heavy equipment are trained and certified to do so prior to operation. We identify employees that have been trained by issuing hard hat stickers signifying the type of training completed. Our employees compete for these stickers - like a badge of honor they proudly wear the emblems, signifying their competency with new skills as well as their ability to perform their jobs safely. Through our in-house efforts, and our on-going partnership with ABC and other associations, Erickson-Hall Construction Co. is able to keep our workforce well trained and possessing top-notch skills - allowing us to proudly boast a company of People Producing Safely.
