Poised to break its all-time sales record, Otay Ranch has sold more than 800 homes in the pedestrian-friendly community in the first nine months of 2004.
"Homebuyers have embraced Otay Ranch's small town ambiance, community spirit, wide variety of attached- and detached-home neighborhoods, and unmatched housing values," said Kent Aden, executive vice president.
Otay Ranch has consistently been one of the top-selling planned communities in San Diego County since its inception in 1999. Guest builders include Oakwood Development, Pacific Coast Communities, Rimrock Communities and Trilogy Development (not affiliated with Shea Homes).
The community is designed as a series of self-contained villages that contain a central activity core surrounded by residential neighborhoods. More than half of the property is designated as permanent open space and parks.
"Otay Ranch features many of the characteristics that make older neighborhoods so appealing," Aden said. "Residential neighborhoods include such amenities as parkways with street trees, homes with front porches and garages tucked in the back accessed through an alley. It's all part of our plan to bring neighbors onto the street."
The community's numerous parks, active community center, miles of trails and private swim clubs also help create an authentic hometown feeling, as residents just naturally run into their neighbors as part of their daily routine.
"By creating a more traditional 'village' and establishing a network of pedestrian pathways, we're created a vibrant outdoor lifestyle," Aden said.
With the first villages nearly built out, The Otay Ranch Co. has turned its attention to the new village of Hillsborough, where seven neighborhoods are distinguished by French Country architectural styling. Plans call for an attractive village core with a neighborhood park, elementary school and mixed-use center.
Hillsborough offers a wide array of attached and detached homes priced from the low $300,000s to the $800,000s.
