Looking Back: 2004 Highlights

Almost 500 people came out to ring in the year of the monkey at the 10th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration hosted by China Camp/Fat City Steakhouse. Guests enjoyed the Lucky Lion dance performance, a spectacular firecrackers show and put on their best poker faces for funny money gambling in the "casino tent." Attendance this year was greater than ever with numerous dignitaries present.

ABA hosted three Mixers in 2004 where members met new business contacts and enjoyed great food and company.

The Spring Mixer was held at the DoubleTree Hotel in March, followed by the Viejas Extravaganza Mixer in June and finally, the Under the Stars Mixer at the beautiful Japanese Friendship Garden in October.

In June, ABA welcomed their new executive director and new members with a New Member Orientation at the ABA offices located in Kearny Mesa. Members got an opportunity to meet the executive director, ABA board of directors and learn about the many benefits of membership, while enjoying delicious food and drink!

Citibank generously hosted a Business Financing Seminar at the DoubleTree Hotel for ABA in late August. Allen Ilano, Citibank VP of Commercial Banking provided members with tips on how to expand business with innovative financing.

ABA businesswomen learned about the challenges and opportunities that come with working in the media industry at ABA's first Women On Women (WOW!) event in September. Members had an opportunity to tour the gorgeous Spa Tiki, enjoy spa treatments and listen to the personal experiences of industry leaders, Lee Ann Kim, Vivian Lin and Wendy Urushima-Simmons.

Last but not least, ABA was proud to host 10 Rice Club luncheons in 2004 at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant with record attendance! Distinguished speakers included Chief of Police Bill Lansdowne; Councilman Scott Peters; San Diego Housing Federation Executive Director Tom Scott; Chair of the Citizens Equal Opportunity Commission Daniel Salas; Qualcomm Vice President of Real Estate & Facilities, James C. Callaghan Jr.; National City Mayor Nick Inzunza; San Diego Film Commission Director of Community Relations, Kimberly Hale; City Club of San Diego President, George Mitrovich; Alliance Pharmaceuticals CEO, Duane J. Roth; and CCDC Community Relations Manager Sheila Hardin.
