"It was April Fools Day in 1990 when I became the executive director of IREM," said Nicole Baker. "But it wasn't a joke on me. It was the best career decision I ever made."

With Baker's guidance and management, IREM's San Diego Chapter has flourished over the last 15 years.

"Our Chapter has enjoyed incredible success," said Cherrie Giles, 2003 Chapter president. "Our Chapter has won Chapter of the Year Awards for 12 out of the last 15 years, and Nicole has a lot to do with our success."

Better than anyone else, Baker knows the ins and outs of IREM life.

"Just ask Nicole," said current Chapter president, Elizabeth Bachmann. "She knows everything about what it takes to run this Chapter."

In order to stay on the cutting edge, Baker belongs to the San Diego Society of Association Executives (SDSAE), where she has served on the SDSAE board for several years and was elected president of SDSAE in 1997. In 2000, Baker was named "Association Executive of the Year" by SDSAE. In 2001, SDSAE merged with other California chapters of the Society of Association Executives and became California Society of Association Executives. Baker served on the CalSAE Regional Council in 2001 and 2002.

Keeping an all-volunteer organization running smoothly requires dedicated effort, and Baker gives 110 percent all of the time.

"I don't know what we would do without Nicole," said Greg Cartwright, 1998 Chapter president and Regional Vice President. "She is the foundation of our Chapter and our Rock of Gibraltar."
