When John Mecklenburg opened the San Diego Division of John Laing Homes, his goal was simple: build a strong, satisfied team of employees and secure a reputation for quality, responsible homebuilding.
Two years and an additional 50 employees later, Mecklenburg has met his goal. Backed by a solid team of industry professionals, he is now focusing on an aggressive growth plan to bring several new Laing San Diego communities to local homebuyers in the coming year.
"We believe in creating outstanding value in the marketplace through innovation in product and design," said Mecklenburg, who is president of Laing San Diego. "With a commitment to quality without exception in both craftsmanship and customer service, we've consistently received high marks from our buyers."
Out of more than 140 homebuilders scored nationwide, Laing San Diego has an overall customer satisfaction score of 97.7 percent, and has consistently held the number one or two ranking for the last year (according to third-party surveys conducted by Eliant).
Mecklenburg has worked for a number of other builders, including Presley Homes and Richmond American Homes over the last two decades. He says it is John Laing's remarkable company culture and commitment to excellence that he most identifies with and why he's honored to lead the Laing San Diego team.
"Knowing that our task goes well beyond building homes, we focus on creating a great team of professionals, who in turn help us in creating great communities where our buyers are truly satisfied," Mecklenburg said. "As our division grows we will be reaching out to the larger community to offer charitable help in a number of ways."
Offering homes that range in size from 2,332 to 2,736 square feet, the San Diego division of John Laing Homes is currently selling homes at Woodley's Glen in San Elijo Hills and at The Tides and Sea House at Water's End in Carlsbad.
In 2005 the company will open three new neighborhoods: Rosemary Lane at 4S Ranch and Isla Vista and Cordelane at La Costa Greens.
John Laing Homes was named Professional Builder magazine's "2004 Builder of the Year." The national award, created in 1966, recognizes one homebuilder each year for excellence in the industry in several areas, including innovative designs, marketing and customer service. One of the top privately held homebuilders in the nation, John Laing Homes ranks 28th on Professional Builder magazine's list of the top 400 homebuilders. The company, based in Newport Beach, Calif., concentrates its homebuilding efforts in California and Colorado.
