Marilyn Lassman is a woman who has made her mark on San Diego. Not only has she proven herself to be ambitious and hard working, she has paved the way for women in business everywhere. She is often admired for her tireless energy which has lead her to impact San Diego for over 50 years. Her resume is replete with accomplishments and awards, including founding the South County Economic Development Council (SCEDC), an organization devoted to the growth and advancement of South County.
Marilyn was an original member of South County Economic Development Council where she was also founding chair for three years. She nurtured SCEDC through its initial period, rose significant funding for its growth and hired its first Executive Director, Greg Cox. SCEDC is a non-profit organization which was formed in 1989 to encourage private investment; promote diversified residential and overall business development; publicize the cultural, educational, social, and geographical opportunities of the area and serve as an advocate for the area’s public and private interests.
In 1969, Marilyn was the first woman elected to serve on the Governing Board at Southwestern College. Recently, Marilyn was inducted to the Southwestern College Hall of Fame. Lassman is highly regarded for her work to establish “College for Kids,” now completing its 26th year of operation on the campus. During this time she was elected to the California Community College Trustee Association and served as president of the San Diego County School Board Association.
After serving eight years, she was appointed by the Governor to the California Community College Board of Governors, where she served for five years, including one term as president.
In her business life, Lassman served as Director of Career Development and Director of Community Relations and Governmental Affairs for McMillin Companies. She was also recently nominated to the Workforce Investment Board by SCEDC and currently serves on the Pacific Southwest Board of Realtors.
Marilyn Lassman has been honored as Woman of Achievement in San Diego County. In addition, she has received the Rotary Club of National City “Service Above Self” Award and Citizenship Awards from Lions, Rotary, Altrusa, and Soroptomists clubs. Marilyn, and her late husband Stanley are the parents of two children.
