San Diego-based Reno Contracting has begun construction on DiamondView Tower, a $95 million, 15-story office building adjacent to Petco Park.
Designed by Carrier Johnson, the project is developed by Cisterra Partners LLC/B>, a developer of commercial buildings and corporate campuses, headquartered in San Diego. Cisterra owns the project in partnership with Prudential Real Estate Investors.
According to David Armstrong, vice president of Reno Contracting, Reno recently completed all preconstruction for the high-profile project - including budgeting and estimating - and has just commenced work on the construction phase.
"This is a fast-track, 20-month project slated for completion by February of 2007," he said. "Our work schedule is intense, as the structure will span a total of 325,000 square feet, including more than 235,000 square feet of office space, plus retail and restaurant space on the first two floors."
Sporting a brick façade on the bottom levels topped by vast expanses of glass, DiamondView Tower will also have ample parking - approximately 330 spaces in the three-level, poured-in-place parking structure beneath the building.
Additional plans call for a Hall-of-Fame-type exhibit space in the lobby, a full-service health club with pool, a conference/meeting room overlooking the ballpark and private balconies on each floor.
The tower is slated to house an array of commercial, retail and restaurant tenants - among them CB Richard Ellis, Comerica Bank and Cox Media with its Channel 4 television studios.
"DiamondView is an important new development which will play a key role in the ongoing renaissance of the East Village," said Jason Wood, director of development for Cisterra Partners. "In addition to much needed office space, it will offer a colorful mix of dining, shopping and recreational elements in one locale."
The building's prime location - just over the right-field fence of Petco Park - will provide sweeping skybox-like vistas.
Spearheading the project on behalf of Reno are Project Director William S. Hansen, P.E., Project Manager Craig Hueners, Superintendent Steve Bettis and Project Engineers Bryan McCarthy and Karla Troester. Design-build team members include California Comfort Systems/McParlane & Associates, mechanical; Paschall Plumbing/McParlane & Associates, plumbing; Schmidt Fire Protection, fire sprinklers, and Dynalectric/MPE Consulting, electrical.
