Wells Fargo Plaza is well-served by re-investment

Related Special Reports

For over two decades Wells Fargo Plaza has stood out as one of the signature buildings of the San Diego skyline, with its distinctive profile and alternating stripes of dark glass and red carmine granite. This summer the 24-story downtown landmark is seeing the completion of an interior restoration worthy of its status.

The multi-million dollar project includes new stone floors, hardwood ceilings and lighting for the main lobby, as well as clear glass windows providing more light and greater visibility. Elevator lobbies and other common areas, including two conference rooms and a deli, are also part of the reinvestment program. Even the elevator cabs are gaining new stone flooring and wood paneling. In all, nine floors of the building are being entirely redone. The project will be completed in August.

Wells Fargo Plaza opened in 1984. It was purchased last year by The Irvine Co., which also owns Symphony Towers and other San Diego office properties in La Jolla and Sorrento Mesa.

"Wells Fargo Plaza is already such a fantastic building; we're just trying to make it even better," said Steve Center, regional vice president of leasing for The Irvine Co. Office Properties. "We are certain that current customers, potential customers and visitors will be very impressed with the changes."

Located at 401 B St., the 472,000-square-foot building is in the heart of downtown's thriving business district. Along with having its own deli, spacious plaza and 672 underground parking stalls, it is within walking distance of the Gaslamp Quarter and civic center. The building offers stunning views of San Diego in all directions from the upper floors and is just minutes away from Lindbergh Field, San Diego Zoo, Petco Park and San Diego Convention Center. Wells Fargo Plaza is served by Interstate 5 and Highway 163 and is just around the corner from a San Diego Trolley station.
