The sounds of success

When superstar singer Celine Dion performs at Caesar’s Palace, her audiences hear her at her best because of good acoustics, courtesy of an Oceanside-based company called Lamvin Inc.

Lamvin designs and manufactures a broad array of custom acoustical wall panels. While there’s only one Caesar’s Palace, there are thousands of corporate boardrooms, concert halls, sports arenas, movie theaters and sound studios, all of which need visually appealing, acoustically correct products. Lamvin has been providing them since 1970.

In 2004, Lamvin president Joan Siok and her partners tired of renting their facility and opted for a larger corporate home — a 57,000-square-foot headquarters and warehouse. The $3.5 million building nearly doubled the space for their 30 employees, manufacturing equipment and inventory.

A veteran of SBA financing, Siok secured her third SBA loan with the help of CDC Small Business Finance and 1st Pacific Bank of California. The SBA 504 loan provides 90 percent fixed rate financing to small businesses buying or constructing their commercial real estate.

“I always felt CDC was looking out for our best interests, collaborating with our bank to get us the best loan possible,” Siok said. “The entire process was easy and very straight-forward and CDC made sure we weren’t caught off guard by any surprises.”

Siok admits that being an owner is much better than a renter. In fact, it even sounds good.
