Small business town hall meeting focuses on national export initiative

Small business leaders are invited to participate with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke in an interactive discussion on international trade and how small businesses compete in the world marketplace.

Solar Turbines will host this event on the floor of its main manufacturing facility at 4200 Ruffin Road in San Diego, 92123. More than 70 percent of the units Solar Turbines produces in this facility are shipped around the world.

There will be an open question and answer session with Secretary Locke.

The National Export Initiative (NEI) was announced by President Obama in his State of the Union address. The NEI seeks to improve the conditions that directly affect the private sector's ability to export. Also, the NEI will help small businesses overcome the hurdles to entering new export markets by assisting with trade expertise and export financing.

The program begins at 4 p.m. and guests are asked to arrive no earlier than 3:30 p.m. to park and check-in. Send confirmation of attendance directly to the local U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center Director Matt Andersen by e-mail at matt.andersen@trade.gov
