San Diego National Bank is celebrating its 25th birthday on Nov. 12. In many ways it doesn't seem that long ago when an idea to open a new bank grew into the determined aspiration of a small group of dedicated people that included business owners, individuals and banking professionals. We identified ourselves as "San Diegans in business for San Diego."

The bank began its journey out of a small office in Seaport Village. It moved to 635 A St. when the doors first opened on Nov. 12, 1981. After three years, the bank moved into its permanent location at 1420 Kettner Blvd.

Today, the Kettner and Ash location is still the bank's downtown headquarters. The view outside however, has changed significantly over the last 25 years. Those changes have enabled San Diego National Bank to be part of San Diego's growth through its real estate development and business loans, as well as its community support.

Additionally, its branch offices have enabled the bank to provide unique insight into San Diego's diverse pockets and the overall climate of our region. Providing consumer products and services, as well as construction, business and SBA loans has continued to pay dividends in the infrastructure of San Diego County's various neighborhoods.

The bank's strength and asset size have also grown substantially since 1981. With assets of more than $2.3 billion, San Diego National Bank has been rated by the respected Findley Reports as "Super Premier" - the highest rating category - since 1998. The bank is proud of that accomplishment and believes it offers San Diegans both stability and reliability they can count on.

San Diego National Bank's philosophy and practice of community involvement are also essential elements of why we now use the tagline, "We Know San Diego." The real strength in the tagline, however, is found within the staff. San Diego National Bank's energetic employees renew the bank's commitment daily to making San Diego a great place through involvement in more than 200 community organizations across the county. Additionally, in 1998, the bank established a policy to return 3 percent of its net profits to the citizens of San Diego annually in the form of charitable contributions.

The bank has spent the past 25 years growing along with San Diego and prides itself on making it a point to know and focus on the specific needs of the customers and the community. The bank also realizes that the next decade will set the course of this community for generations to come. San Diego National Bank intends to continue to play a major role in the region's efforts to achieve global prominence as an idyllic place to live, work and play.

San Diego National Bank is extremely grateful to all its clients, directors, management and employees who have been such an important part of its success. The bank is proud to look back on its 25-year partnership with the residents of San Diego and reflect on how its participation has helped create today's San Diego.
