High Tech High builds school site in San Marcos

San Diego-based High Tech High will open a new campus in San Marcos. The charter school organization recently acquired 5.23 acres at San Marcos Boulevard and Discovery Street from Novi Discovery LLC for $5 million. High Tech High North County will open in fall 2007 in temporary facilities with construction of the permanent facilities scheduled for completion in 2008.

San Diego-based Studio E Architects will design the newest school specifically tailored to project-based learning. Rick Cavanaugh and Dennis Hacker of CB Richard Ellis (NYSE: CBG) represented the buyer. Lannie Allee, Roger Carlson, Dan Yeilding and Doug Simpson, also of CBRE, represented the seller, Novi Discovery LLC.

High Tech High North County is one of the first two schools opening under the California Statewide Benefit Charter that was awarded to High Tech High in 2006. It will open with 150 ninth-grade students. High Tech High currently operates three high schools, two middle schools and one elementary school in San Diego County and one high school in Redwood City.
