Bruce A. Ives is the president, chief executive officer and a director of Coronado First Bank. A native San Diegan, Ives, 42, has dedicated himself to a career in the banking industry.
Before helping to open Coronado First Bank in October 2005, Ives served from 1999 to 2004 as a director, president and the chief executive officer of Cuyamaca Bank, which was based in El Cajon and served much of east San Diego County. From 1996 to 1999, Ives was the senior vice president and regional manager for Scripps Bank's coastal North County region. He also served as the vice president and group and regional manager of the former First Interstate Bank from 1994 to 1996.
Ives grew up in a banking family, as his father was an executive with Security Pacific Bank in San Diego. His grandfather was the executive vice president of the Bank of New York and also served as the president of the American Bankers Association.
Ives was raised in Point Loma and continues to live in the bayside community with his wife, Gail, and three children: Brittany, Brandon and Ashley. A Point Loma High School graduate, Ives went on to attend San Diego State University, graduating in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in economics. He went on to get an advanced degree in banking from the University of Washington in 2000.
Ives is the immediate past president of the San Diego State Alumni Association. He also serves as a director with the California Bankers Association; the San Diego chapter of the United Way; the Coronado Hospital Foundation; the Campanile Foundation; and the San Diego International Sports Council. Ives is also involved with the San Diego Yacht Club.
Ives is Coronado First Bank's first president and CEO, helping to launch the only locally owned bank on the island of Coronado when it officially opened for business in October 2005 after receiving its charter in just 10 months. Though it has a Coronado-specific focus, Coronado First also serves the entire county through such regional services as online banking and small-business loans.
