Elizabeth S. Balfour
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP
Elizabeth S. Balfour is an associate in the White Collar and Civil Fraud Defense and Business Trial Practice groups of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP. She works out of the firm's Del Mar Heights office. Balfour has experience litigating in a variety of settings: private securities litigation in both state and federal court, Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement proceedings and National Association of Securities Dealers Arbitration. She has handled class actions as well as cases involving trade secrets and unfair competition, creditors' rights, bank lending practices, contract disputes, products liability, construction defects and white-collar crime. She received her J.D. from Harvard University in 1999 and a B.A. from Yale in 1996.
Jeffry A. Davis

Jeffry Davis is a member in the San Diego office of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo PC, practicing in the Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Commercial Law Section. He has practiced in the area of bankruptcy, commercial law and debtor/creditor law for over 25 years, and is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy and commercial law subjects before professional and trade organizations. In addition, Davis is a commercial law litigator, in areas such as contract and business disputes. He has been chosen by his peers for inclusion in Naifeh and Smith's "Best Lawyers in America" every year since 1997, and has consistently been listed as among San Diego's Best Lawyers by San Diego Magazine. He received his B.A. from the State University of New York in 1977 and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1980.
Robert E. Riger
San Diego County Public Law Library
Robert Riger has been director of libraries at the San Diego County Public Law Library since August 2005. He has more than 20 years of library experience in academic, law firm and county law libraries. Most recently he was the director of the Miami-Dade County Law Library in Florida and the past president of the South Florida Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries. Riger received his M.S. in Library and Information Science from the Pratt Institute in New York in 1980, and was elected to Beta Phi Mu, the International Library Science Honor Society. He also has a B.A. in History from Pace University in New York City.
Doug Sherwin
The Daily Transcript
Doug Sherwin is a staff writer for The Daily Transcript. Hired in March 2005, he mainly covers the legal community. Sherwin has been following the ongoing legislative battle over patent reform, and how potential changes will affect San Diego's dynamic biotech and telecomm industries. He is also covering the progress of the Navy Broadway Complex redevelopment downtown, which faces several legal obstacles. His other duties at the Transcript include covering education and the defense industry. Before landing in Southern California, the 15-year journalism veteran wrote for the Plattsburgh Press-Republican, in upstate New York, and the Sanford Herald in central North Carolina. Sherwin is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his B.S. in journalism in 1992 from Ohio University's Scripps School of Journalism.
