2008 EER survey goes green

Related Special Reports

Each year, from January to March, BOMA gathers office building actual income and expense data from building owners, building managers and portfolio managers that is analyzed and published in the Experience Exchange Report (EER).

This year, BOMA's survey process is going "green." We will conduct the survey entirely online and won't print the survey forms.

Why are we going green? Our reasons are many. First and most importantly, our survey respondents prefer to submit data electronically. In 2007, over 85 percent of the more than 4,500 buildings included in the study submitted their data electronically. This year, we hope to make that 100 percent.

The online survey form is faster and easier than using the paper form. Fundamental building demographic data is stored, saving respondents valuable time because they don't have to re-enter that data. Instead, they can proceed to update the survey form with this year's operating income and expense information.

The online survey form is also "smart"; it will prompt respondents if they forget to answer critical questions, or if the data submitted seems amiss. And it's convenient. Respondents can save their data and complete the form as time allows. Once it's complete, we'll send an automatic e-mail confirmation. And if you forget to finish, we'll remind you.

Most importantly, greening the EER survey demonstrates BOMA's commitment to environmental excellence. BOMA encourages environmental stewardship, resource conservation and operational excellence throughout the commercial real estate industry, and it "walks the walk" in developing the industry's best-known study of operational performance. Like BOMA members who use the EER to improve their performance and achieve excellence, BOMA seeks to serve the industry in environmentally conscientious ways.

The 2008 EER survey is open and can be accessed at www.boma.org/2008EERsurvey. The deadline to submit building information for the 2008 EER is March 20. Look for BOMA postcards and e-mail reminders about the survey. BOMA staff will also provide assistance to those who have historically submitted data via the printed survey form. We look forward to your active participation of EER 2008, and thank you in advance for another successful year. If you have any questions, contact Dina Paxenos, BOMA International's Manager of Research Development, at (202) 326-6346 or e-mail eer@boma.org.
