BOMA San Diego offers members who are interested in furthering their careers in the commercial real estate industry a collection of scholarships for RPA and FMA designation classes. There are two Jack Moshgat scholarships awarded every year by the education committee with a value of about $1,000 each.
The 2007 winners of the Jack Moshgat Scholarship include Theresa Dougherty of Allied Office Plaza and Parrish Shope of CB Richard Ellis. These two members were selected based on their demonstrated commitment to education and their desire to pursue and expand a career in commercial real estate.
Scholarships are awarded based on the strength and completeness of the essays, financial need and the candidate's involvement in BOMA. Eligibility requirements include one year experience in commercial real estate; employed or a resident in the San Diego BOMA service area; and BOMA membership is required, as an active member or employee of a member company.
Through the BOMI Institute, RPA designation candidates must complete six mandatory courses, FMA designation candidates must complete seven mandatory courses and all candidates must complete the Ethics Is Good Business ShortCourseTM. The BOMI Institute's U.S. courses have been certified for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE)'s College Credit Recommendation Service.
In addition to the RPA and FMA, the BOMI Institute offers Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) and Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA) Certification programs. The next BOMI Institute course is "Real Estate Investment & Finance" on May 12-14 at Symphony Towers, 750 B St. in downtown San Diego.
