National survey: Using Realtors makes buying, selling homes easier

Related Special Reports

More than seven out of 10 consumers taking part in a recent national survey said they would use a Realtor when buying or selling a home. Chief among the reasons the respondents cited for doing so that Realtor make the complicated and often frustrating real estate sales transaction go easier. Some 70 percent of those surveyed said a Realtor makes it easier to sell a home, while 69 percent said so when buying a home.

Respondents taking part in the survey by the National Association of Realtors were reminded at the outset that not all real estate salespersons and brokers are Realtors. In order to use the designation, real estate sales professionals need to join a local Realtors association and agree to abide by a higher code of ethics and business practices than is legally required.

In North County, the North San Diego County Association of Realtors (NSDCAR) supports nearly 6,000 local Realtors and other professionals who specialize in serving homebuyers and sellers in this region of the county. In addition to providing and enforcing a code of ethics for all members to abide by, NSDCAR provides the tools and services Realtors need to better serve their buyers and sellers, while working with local and regional governmental agencies to protect private property rights.

Some of the tools and services NSDCAR provides include:

¥ Access to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS): The MLS is a compilation of all active properties listed for sale in San Diego County. Through the MLS, property sellers and buyers are assured the listed properties receive maximum exposure and access to all agents throughout the county.

¥ Educational opportunities: NSDCAR provides a wealth of real estate education classes for its members. Many Realtor members hold special designations that give them a higher level of expertise in specialized fields of real estate. Examples of special designations include Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Graduate, Realtor Institute (GRI) and many more.

¥ Protection of private property rights: Property rights are continually at risk and are therefore protected through the rigorous efforts of NSDCAR's Local Government Relations committed and staff.

¥ Networking opportunities: NSDCAR provides weekly marketing sessions and open house tours, geared exclusively to agents to help acquaint them with properties currently on the market. Realtors have the opportunity to see what is on the market for their buyers, and members representing sellers have the opportunity to meet Realtors with buyers.

¥ Service center network: NSDCAR operates five service centers throughout North County to provide its members with all the tools and supplies Realtors may need to serve their clients. The centers are located in Carmel Del Mar, Carlsbad, Vista, Escondido and Fallbrook.
