Sweetwater High School has just started construction on its $46 million modernization project.
Phase 1 of construction at this South County school comprises a three-story 86,360-square-foot building. It will house classrooms, administration offices, a health center and a counseling center.
The facility will also feature a wing dedicated to a contemporary library with a state-of-the-art theater complex on the opposite side of the building.
The 89-year-old campus is the largest project of Proposition O -- a $644 million school bond measure passed by voters in November 2006 that calls for repairs and new infrastructure for all of the Sweetwater Union High School District’s 32 campuses
The National City area high school project is designed to reach LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, helping the entire Proposition O construction program become the largest LEED school bond project in California.
