Casey Gerry attorney to serve on governing body of world's largest trial bar

Related Special Reports

Longtime Casey Gerry partner Frederick Schenk has been elected to serve on the board of governors of the world's largest trial bar: the American Association for Justice (AAJ), a Washington, D.C.-based organization with more than 55,000 members worldwide.

Schenk, who is filling an existing term that expires in July 2010, is the only San Diego attorney currently serving on the board.

The board of governors is the governing body of AAJ (previously known as ATLA -- the American Association of Trial Lawyers), and is charged with establishing and approving all association policies, including the adoption of a three-year budget on an annual basis. Each state trial lawyer organization is represented on the board by two or more governors, and Schenk is representing the Consumer Attorneys of California. Governors are also chosen by international jurisdictions and by various caucuses, organizations and groups within the association.

"Casey Gerry has an enduring tradition of serving this prestigious organization -- with our founding partner Dick Gerry serving as ATLA president from 1981 to 1982 -- and we are honored that Fred will continue our legacy and represent our firm on a national level," said David Casey Jr., who has been involved with the organization for many years and served as ATLA president from 2004 to 2005.

Active in a variety of community and professional organizations, Schenk is well equipped for his new position. An attorney with Casey Gerry since 1983, he has extensive experience in products liability, personal injury, asbestos law and drug litigation. He co-authored the LexisNexis California Automobile Litigation Handbook, and since 2005, he has been listed in Woodward and White's Best Lawyers In America. Additionally, he is listed in Super Lawyers magazine, and was awarded the "Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award" by the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego.

He has played a leadership role in numerous organizations, and served as president of the Consumers Attorneys of San Diego and was recognized as "Chapter President of the Year" by the Consumer Attorneys of California. Schenk is also past president of the Civil Justice Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing consumer injury and defending consumer access to justice; past president of The Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center; and a founding co-chair of the Cardozo Society of the United Jewish Federation of San Diego, which promoted Jewish learning, continuing legal education and networking for Jewish attorneys in San Diego. In addition, he was vice president of the 22nd District Agricultural Association (Del Mar Fairboard), serving on the board of directors from 2002 to 2005.

Celebrating more than 60 years in San Diego, Casey Gerry was established in 1947, and is the oldest plaintiffs' law firm in San Diego. The firm's 12 attorneys practice in numerous areas, including asbestos, personal injury, product liability and pharmaceutical litigation.
