In construction defect litigation, Silldorf & Levine LLP has been recognized as one of California's leading law firms. For more than 20 years, Silldorf & Levine has been involved in the prosecution of construction defect claims on behalf of homeowners associations and homeowners throughout Southern California. The firm has recovered more than $150 million for homeowners and homeowners associations.
The partners at Silldorf & Levine, Howard J. Silldorf and Scott D. Levine, assisted in drafting and negotiating both of the major construction defect statues in California. Silldorf assisted in drafting Civil Code Section 1375, the "Calderon Statue," which outlines the pre-dispute resolution process for construction defect litigation in the 1990s. Levine co-negotiated (on behalf of homeowners) California's new construction defect law SB 800 (Civil Code Section 895 et. seq.).
The firm's attorneys have earned a reputation for quality by exercising determined advocacy representing clients in important cases in the field of construction defect litigation and consumer rights.
In over 50 cases, more than $150 million has been recovered for clients through the use of critical research and creative problem solving. In the landmark case of Alcala v. Uptown District Homeowners Association, 57 Cal. Rptr. 2d 349 (1996), Silldorf created a unique settlement structure to maximize recovery for his clients. Further, Silldorf represented the homeowners association in the seminal case Ranchwood Communities v. Jim Beat Construction, 57 Cal. Rptr. 2d 386 (1996). This case established the law regarding unlicensed contractors and their ability to seek contribution and indemnity claims.
Silldorf & Levine has received many accolades for its legal work, including numerous awards from the Consumer Attorneys of California, San Diego Magazine and Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. Moreover, both of the firm's partners are active in the legal community.
Levine is the president-elect for Consumer Attorneys of San Diego for 2010. As a member of the California Association of Community Managers Legal Steering Committee, Silldorf has taught all aspects of Community Association Law.
As a boutique civil litigation firm, Silldorf & Levine provides a team approach to client representation using technology in a coordinated effort of attorneys and support staff to produce exceptional results for their clients. The firm's advanced case management skills provide the benefit of a large law firm with the approachability of a small law firm.
As Silldorf reported in an issue of California Lawyer, "what separates our firm from others not so well-established (is the other firms) don't have the will or the ability to fund the critical research." This approach allows Silldorf & Levine to provide a wide variety of legal representation.
At Silldorf & Levine clients have the benefit of access to a team approach to client representation. The attorneys work together in a cooperative environment to service clients in the areas of Community Association Representation, Consumer Employment Law, Franchise Law, Business Litigation and Bankruptcy.
