Don't miss attending this year's Coronado Speed Festival on Sept. 26-27, 2009. The Festival is Fleet Week San Diego's marquee event and features fast-paced, thrilling auto racing and exhibitions for car enthusiasts of all ages at Naval Air Station, North Island. Over 30 of the most famous NASCAR Winston Cup stock cars will compete at the Festival. Additionally, Southern California's finest examples of muscle cars, hotrods and sports cars will battle it out for Best of Show.
Enjoy also the following special activities:
• Landing Craft Air Cushion hovercraft demonstrations by the U.S. Navy
• Demonstration of the skill and precision of the Navy Parachute Team, the Leap Frogs, on September 27 during the opening ceremony. The Leap Frogs, based in San Diego, will be available for autograph signing after their jump.
• Drifting, whereby drifters deliberately control their cars to slide sideways at high-speed via stylized movements and skilled maneuvering techniques. This event is a real crowd pleaser.
The U.S. Navy's Third Fleet and Naval Surface Forces also invite you to visit two Navy ships -- the USS Makin Island and the USS Princeton.
As in the past, all active duty, active reservist and their dependents will be admitted free to the event. Admission is also free for children 12 and younger.
Don't miss out on this annual celebration of speed. The Coronado Speed Festival offers something for everyone to enjoy, so plan to come to this event for fun and excitement for the whole family.
