Sony VP joins North Chamber board

Sony (NYSE: SNE) senior vice president and deputy general counsel Chris Ekren has joined the North Chamber of Commerce's board of directors.

Ekren manages the legal affairs of Sony's main U.S. consumer and components electronics product engineering, manufacturing, marketing and sales divisions and supervises the attorneys and legal professionals supporting those groups.

He also is directly involved in supporting Sony's global reader digital hardware and service initiative, its new global digital cinema technology and content initiative, various new platform wireless initiatives, as well as general electronics and related services new business development.

"Chris is dedicated to developing ideas and ensuring success at Sony," said Debra Rosen, chamber president and CEO, in a statement. "The board of directors is confident that he will bring that spirit with him to the chamber."

Sony Electronics's North American headquarters is in Rancho Bernardo. During his Sony career to date, Ekren has coordinated the legal support for the establishment of Sony's global PC business, its first online commerce activity, its first networked personal communicator product line and first internet-enabled television product. Ekren received his law degree from the University of Chicago after graduating from Rice University. Ekren was president of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel in 2006, which won the national Chapter of the Year under his leadership.
