AHA kicks off Go Red For Women campaign

The 2010 San Diego Go Red For Women campaign kicked off across San Diego County Feb. 4, as locations across the region agreed to "Go Red" in support of the campaign.

The largest of the kickoff rallies took place downtown on Broadway, between the Westfield Horton Plaza and US Grant Hotel. Both locations were illuminated red to draw attention to the campaign. The US Grant Hotel also provided half-price coupons to all participants.

About 50 volunteers, led by San Diego's Go Red For Women Luncheon keynote speaker Holly Green, turned out for the rally. Volunteers spent the evening distributing Red Dress pins and heart healthy information to shoppers in the Broadway area.

At least eight San Diego landmarks participated in this year's "Landmarks Go Red" campaign, making it the largest "Landmarks Go Red" campaign in San Diego to date. Locations that supported the campaign include the US Grant Hotel, San Diego County Administrative Building, The Marketplace at Westfield UTC, Westfield Horton Plaza, Classic Residence by Hyatt, Hotel del Coronado, Sè San Diego Hotel and the La Jolla Commons.

The San Diego campaign historically kicks off the night before National Wear Day -- the first Friday in February.
