The San Diego County Bar Association recently released its selection of "Bar Stars," a list of attorneys, judges and law students who have dedicated 50 or more hours of service to the community in 2009. Earlier this year, the organization launched the "Lawyers Giving Back" campaign, a year-long initiative challenging members of the legal community to donate 50 hours of their time to pro bono work, community service or service to the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA).
The campaign was designed to provide opportunities for SDCBA members to get involved in service work or community service projects that they found to be personally fulfilling and meaningful.
This year, SDCBA members have participated in multiple service projects, ranging from assisting distressed homeowners during the foreclosure crisis at HOME Clinics in collaboration with the Housing Opportunities Collaborative to volunteering on a Habitat for Humanity "build day." They've also provided mentoring underprivileged young adults. A full list of the 2009 "Bar Stars" can be found at sdcba.org/barstars.
