Faith Lutheran getting makeover

Related Special Reports

Faith Lutheran Church in Capistrano Beach has had its roof raised and the stucco refreshed in a dramatic makeover.

Designed by domusstudio architecture, the $300,000 remodeling project at the more than 40-year-old church included major exterior renovations to two church campus buildings.

Showcasing a Spanish revival style architecture, the sanctuary and fellowship hall received new roofs, a new plaster finish, insulation for energy efficiency and seismic upgrading.

The renovations eradicated the buildings' termite problem, as well as tie down structural problems.

Since the project's completion late last year, the church is working again with domusstudio architecture to place Sunday school and youth group modular buildings, needed to accommodate the church's growing ministries.

"This project is a good example of our philosophy that a church in motion stays in motion," said domusstudio architecture associate David Keitel. The downtown San Diego architecture firm has specialized in designing religious facilities since Lew Dominy founded it in 1986.
