Escondido-based Echo Pacific Construction Inc. has begun work to modernize North Terrace Elementary School, which sits within Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton but is a part of Oceanside Unified School District.
Echo Pacific was awarded the job in April. The $15.3 million project entails relocating the school's entrance, building new infrastructure and making changes to seven existing buildings. The exteriors of the existing buildings will be replaced while the interiors will be revamped for new technology installations. Two new permanent buildings and 11 portable buildings will also be constructed, along with new playgrounds.
Slated for removal are the canopies overhanging several walkways on campus. The school’s entrance, which currently faces a city-owned street, is being relocated to better accommodate students, who primarily live on-base.
The project is funded through the Proposition H Bond Program, approved by voters in 2008.
