Related Special Reports

Rev. Brent Ross has been appointed to lead the congregation at the Normal Heights United Methodist Church located at 4650 Mansfield St. Along with Pastor Ross' appointment comes the Sacred Ordinary congregation who will blend their service with the current congregation to meet every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

"I am thrilled to be in Normal Heights and to keep working on ways that we as a church can be a part of this incredible neighborhood," said Rev. Ross. "I see it as integral to our faith to be a partner and advocate for the well-being of this neighborhood. Together as neighbors, residents, business owners, educators and churches we point the way to a hopeful future."

Pastor Ross previously served as associate pastor at the San Carlos United Methodist Church, where he created a dynamic and forward-thinking service called Sacred Ordinary where he was able to blend his interest and passion in new styles of worship and community formation. At only 39-years-old, Normal Height United Methodist Church will be Pastor Ross' third appointment, including his initial appointment in Chicago, Ill.

A native of Florida, Pastor Ross has a master's of theological studies from Vanderbilt University and an M Div. from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. He is also very involved with the Southern California Methodist District Planning and Strategy Committee and the Episcopacy Committee.

He and his wife Heather, a philosophy professor at Point Loma University, have two children and call North Park their home. When not biking to work or debating theology, Pastor Ross immerses himself in the wonderful beer culture here in San Diego and dreams of how he can fit even more hops into an IPA.

In November 2013, Normal Heights United Methodist Church will celebrate 100 years of service to the uptown area of San Diego Please mark your calendars for these upcoming celebrations:

Message for Pastor Brent: I am sure you remember Dave and I from SCUMC. We worked on painting your all purpose room a couple of years ago. Dave and I will be in charge of a project to paint two rooms at the Good Neighbor Center on 47th St. for Labor for Your Neighbor in August. Carol Lockwood told me that all the painting supplies were donated to your church. I was inquiring about possibly borrowing them for our project. I will be going to GNC tomorrow to see the room and what we need. Perhaps I could come by sometime and see what you have if ok with you. We are lacking funds in the CO budget to fund the project so Dave and I will put in our own money. Hope all is going well with your family, the church, etc. We think of you often. Great article! Welcome Pastor Brent! As a reminder, Normal Heights United Methodist Church also has a Traditional Service that is conducted every Sunday at 9:00 am. Come to church and experience either of our great services and decide which is right for you! All are welcome! Thank you!
