San Diego State University has been awarded a grant from JPMorgan Chase & Co. for the development of campus recruitment and retention programs and services for U.S. military veterans and personnel.
The grant is part of a $1 million investment JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM) has made to fund higher education programs for U.S. military veterans at four universities, including SDSU, Florida State College at Jacksonville, University of South Florida and the University of Texas at Arlington. SDSU President Elliot Hirshman will accept the grant during a reception aboard the USS Midway Museum on Thursday night.
"We are deeply grateful to JPMorgan Chase for their generous support of our veterans and our university,” Hirshman said. “Our partnership with JPMorgan Chase will enhance our outreach programs, ensuring greater educational and employment opportunities for our returning veterans."
During the same ceremony, Marine Cpl. Joshua Lopez, who was awarded a Purple Heart after being severely injured in Afghanistan in 2012, will be granted a mortgage-free home in San Marcos for himself, his wife Jennifer and their two children. The home was donated by Chase to the New York nonprofit Building Homes for Heroes, which identified Lopez as a recipient. Chase and Building Homes for Heroes will refurbish the home to accommodate Lopez’s needs as an amputee.
