Tri-City donates $5,000 toward MLK Jr. restoration project

Related Special Reports

Oceanside-based Tri-City Medical Center was recognized Feb. 25, by the North San Diego County NAACP for donating $5,000 toward the restoration of 14 signs along Mesa Boulevard that honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

The signs were a public art project created by artist Roberto Salas more than a decade ago, but they had fallen into disrepair. Two of the signs had disappeared.

Tri-City's donation helped restore the artwork, which depicted pictures of Gandhi, Rosa Parks and Dr. King and places where blacks and whites were segregated, such as a lunch counter and a bus stop.
