Emerging dome makes new Central Library an iconic building

The project really began 16 years ago, after the city held a series of public workshops to ask people what they'd like in the new Central Library, and architects Rob Quigley and Tucker Sadler Associates were commissioned to work on the design.

It might have been nice to include the STRUCTURAL engineer who designed the system that would bring this magnificent building to actual life. You can claim lack of space in the article to indentify and applaud the other consultants who spent just as long working on the City's newest and most likely iconic build as the architects, but it doesn't tell the real story without them. The structural, civil, electrical and mechanical designers, interiors people, fire, life/safety have as much to do with the success of a building like this as Rob Quigley and Art Castro--marvelous, creative people as they are. Oh yes, and Turner is great too--especially during the time that Ron Rudolph was running the project.
