Gaslamp Quarter to showcase leading artists' talent

The Gaslamp Quarter plays host to its inaugural Artist Showcase Saturday, March 29. This free community art event will feature more than 50 of San Diego's leading artists gathering to display their talent on the streets and rooftops of the historic entertainment district.

Three themed activities fit into the Gaslamp Quarter Artist Showcase: the "Reflection" Outdoor Art Show, the "Spyglass" Art Exhibit inside Gaslamp businesses and the "Kaleidoscope" Tour of Fine Art, Fine Wine and Fine Spirits.

Attendees of the Kaleidoscope tour can also purchase a $10 ticket to sample fine wine and spirits at ten art galleries and hotel rooftops during the event. Attendance is expected to reach 5,000.

Celebrity chef to host on-air cooking segment

Executive Chef of The Oceanaire Seafood Room and Bravo's "Top Chef" finalist Brian Malarkey has joined San Diego Living for a weekly cooking segment. Malarkey will show viewers how to prepare dishes in their own kitchens and will also pair his dishes with a choice of wines provided by Foster's Group, a sponsor of the new cooking segment.

"A weekly cooking segment lets me share my favorite recipes and provide viewers with a taste of what goes on in the Oceanaire kitchen," Malarkey said.

Binational radio group formed

Media Access Partners Inc. recently announced the creation of a new broadcast group for San Diego and Tijuana, with the formation of an advertising sales alliance between XLTN-FM 104.5/Radio Latina, XKAM-AM 950/Radio Formula, XEXX-AM 1420 and XRST-FM 107.7/Digital.

The broadcasters participating in the new alliance are The Imagen Group, directed by Alberto Vejar Palencia, Synesthesia Communications Inc., directed by Enrique Bernal Vázquez and Media Access Partners Inc., directed by Rodger Seelert.

"We are very excited to announce the creation of a radio group for San Diego advertisers and listeners," announced Seelert, president of Media Access Partners Inc. "Each of the stations within the new group is the market leader in their format and each delivers a large and viable audience on both sides of the International border".

Gold Medallion awards benefit local schools

The California Restaurant Association San Diego Chapter will hold its 24th annual Gold Medallion Awards and Auction April 30. The event not only recognizes San Diego's "best of the best," but additionally raises tens of thousands of dollars for local high-school education programs vital to San Diego's culinary arts programs.

With CRA's support, students at San Diego high schools, including Morse, Mira Mesa, San Diego and Garfield are immersing themselves in the restaurant industry and learning valuable real-world skills that provide them a head start on a future career as a chef, manager or even owner.
