Gaslamp Quarter establishment, The Oceanaire Seafood Room, was honored by Wine Spectator with the coveted "Award of Excellence," a recognition of the quality of its award-winning wine list. Since opening in 2005, Oceanaire has achieved a Wine Spectator's Award every year.
Mike Mitchell, general manager of Oceanaire said, "It is an honor to achieve this distinction for the fourth year in a row. Receiving this award reflects our entire staff's commitment to creating a spectacular dining environment from the moment the guest enters the restaurant. Our wine offerings are an important part of the Oceanaire experience and we are honored to be recognized not only for our cuisine, but also for our wine list."
Wine Spectator's annual contest recognizes restaurant wine lists around the world for their dedication to a fine wine selection. The contest honors establishments whose wine lists offer remarkable selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers. The "Award of Excellence" is awarded to wine lists that offer a well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style.
San Diego Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and his wife Betsy are all set to launch their family foundation -- The Adrian & Betsy Gonzalez Foundation -- later this month, with a celebrity dinner at Acqua Al 2.
On the evening of Aug. 27, Padres players take over Acqua Al 2 restaurant, becoming chefs, waiters and bartenders for one special night. Proceeds benefit the Gonzalez's foundation, which was established to empower underprivileged youth through athletics, education and health.
Funds raised at this event will be given to a children's autism research and care charity, a cause that is close to the family of Martin Gonzalez, Acqua Al 2's owner and chef. Guests will enjoy a five-course dinner paired with fine wines, bid on live auction items and, of course, mingle with San Diego Padres players, who will be collecting donations for any items guests want autographed.
