Amy Butterfield, national sales manager for The Grand Del Mar, has earned the Convention Industry Council's Certified Meeting Professional designation.
According to Kimberly Miles, CMP, senior vice president of industry relations for the American Hotel and Lodging Association and chair of the CMP board of directors, this credential is recognized throughout the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry, and demonstrates Butterfield's expertise in meetings management.
To earn the designation, Butterfield underwent a comprehensive two-part process consisting of a detailed application and a rigorous certification examination -- which tests knowledge of all functions of meeting management -- administered and monitored by an independent testing agency. Eligibility to take the exam is based on an extensive review of professional qualifications. Candidates must have three years' employment in the meetings industry and demonstrate responsibility and accountability for successful meetings.
According to Rob Stirling, The Grand Del Mar's director of sales and marketing, Butterfield's CMP moniker not only demonstrates her proficiency in meetings and convention management, but is also a testament to her hard work and relentless dedication to her job.
A hospitality industry veteran with more than 20 years of catering and sales experience in local and convention markets, Butterfield has been with The Grand Del Mar for nearly three years, and helped open the property in the fall of 2007. She was previously the director of catering and convention services for the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, where she worked for 15 years. Prior to her tenure with Hyatt, Butterfield was the catering manager at the Marriott La Jolla.
