Red Marlin hosts food, wine event Feb. 8

Hyatt Regency Mission Bay's Red Marlin restaurant is hosting its annual "Taste of Red Marlin" at 6 p.m., Feb. 8.

The event includes a hands-on cooking experience with chef Danny Bannister where guests will be seated at the chef's table for an up-close demonstration on how to both prepare and enjoy seafood dishes plus dessert.

There will also be a wine pairing demonstration.

In the spirit of l'amour, the Gaslamp Quarter Association, in partnership with KIFM Smooth Jazz 98.1, is looking for those who have found love in the historic district with the return of the Gaslamp Lovers' Promotion.

The contest welcomes the public to send their best Gaslamp Quarter love, connection or relationship stories for an opportunity to win a couple's prize.

The winning entry will be awarded the Gaslamp Valentine's Package, which includes: two nights stay at the San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter, dinner for two at Urban Bar & Grill and a Segway Tour of the Gaslamp for two.

Additionally, other Gaslamp merchants have offered prizes to the top three entries, including dinner for two at Bandar Restaurant and Sally's Seafood at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.

All stories are to be submitted by noon on Feb. 9 at gaslamp.org.

Hotel management company, R.A. Rauch & Associates was recently awarded the contract to manage Coronado's boutique El Cordova Hotel.

As a third party management firm, RAR has taken over the marketing and management aspects of the hotel.

"We are really focusing on strengthening our relationships in the community of Coronado," said Robert Rauch, President. "Additionally, we are cooperating more with other hotels in the area. That strategy has helped El Cordova's business get off to a great start in 2011 and begin a return to the reputation it has previously enjoyed."

To kick off the New Year, Arterra at Marriott Del Mar is unveiling a new look, taste and vibe with a special grand re-opening event, Taste of Arterra, from 5:30-8 p.m. Feb. 17.

The venue will debut items from its new menu, along with a new décor in the dining room.

Taste of Arterra will highlight Arterra's culinary team, led by new executive chef Tony Miller and sushi chef Andrew Hoh. Chef Miler previously honed his skills at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua, Columbus' Latitude 41 and the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort.

Admission is open to the public with advance reservations required. Entry is free with a $10 donation per guest to Feeding America San Diego's Farm2Kids program.
