Local jazz radio station honored

San Diego's only jazz station, Jazz 88.3, was named Station of the Year (large market) by Jazz Week last month.

The weekly online publication uses its awards program to recognize media, radio, print, Internet and other traditional and non-traditional mediums that advance the appreciation and understanding of jazz.

The nominees were selected by JazzWeek subscribers.

San Diego's best-dressed dogs will gather at the largest dog-friendly party in town, the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA's 25th annual Fur Ball gala on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Animal lovers are invited to attend the black-tie-optional event at the San Diego Humane Society's Gaines Street campus. Well-mannered, leashed dogs are also invited to join as attendees. Dog butlers will be available to cater to doggie wishes -- where the evening will begin with a hosted cocktail reception, plus fun activities for all four-legged guests.

The reception will be followed by a live auction and a three-course dinner prepared by Jeffrey Strauss, owner and executive chef of Pamplemousse Grille.

San Diego sushi restaurant, Harney Sushi, is introducing a new social dining experience called, "Nook Dining" starting Aug. 5.

Named after the private booth tucked away at the Old Town location, Nook Dining will allow guests the opportunity to savor a completely unique 10-course meal prepared using technique, inspired concepts and sustainable products.

Taking place on the first Tuesday of every month, Nook Dining is priced at $150/person and includes both food and drink pairings. Call 619-295-3272 for reservations.
