Mayoral candidates take a day off from debating Thursday

Related Special Reports

San Diego’s mayoral candidates have a day off Thursday from debating each other.

The mayoral election began its push to November this week, with five debates scheduled over the course of the week. Thursday is the lone open date on the schedule.

There are two debates on the following two days, however.

Democratic Rep. Bob Filner and Republican Councilman Carl DeMaio are scheduled for a Friday debate from noon to 2 p.m. at the La Jolla Country Day School. On Saturday, they’ll face off from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church Parish Hall on El Cajon Boulevard during a debate sponsored by the San Diego Alliance for Asian Pacific Islander Americans.

Already this week, the candidates have met for three debates.

Tuesday afternoon there was a debate sponsored by the La Jolla Rotary held at La Jolla’s La Valencia Hotel. Tuesday evening the Associated General Contractors held a debate in Lakeside at the RDO Equipment Co. Wednesday afternoon they had an innovation-themed debate at the Balboa Park Museum of Photographic Arts hosted by the San Diego Innovation Alliance.
