ABC San Diego teams up with American Red Cross to provide disaster relief in San Diego

Related Special Reports

San Diego County has seen its share of natural disasters, including two devastating wildfires in the past decade. ABC San Diego has been an active participant in ABC’s long-standing commitment nationwide on the forefront of disaster relief, charitable fundraising and community initiatives including volunteerism.

Now, a new partnership with the American Red Cross will allow ABC San Diego members to donate directly to those gravely affected by a natural disaster or other type of emergency, including people who may be affected in San Diego.

ABC has established its own donation website with the American Red Cross to raise funds for victims of natural disasters or other major relief efforts. Following the outbreak of tornadoes across the South and Midwest, ABC provided chapters, members and ABC staff with the opportunity to contribute to those in need. That first initiative raised almost $5,000 for the Red Cross’ Disaster Relief fund and its 2012 Spring Storms fund.

The Disaster Relief fund is open to contributions at any time and is the first fund the Red Cross taps into following a natural disaster or other type of emergency. To help those impacted by disaster, ABC San Diego members can help by contributing to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund. Here is the link to the site: http://american.redcross.org/abc-pub

“We’re grateful to the ABC for creating this donation site for its members to assist in times of disaster — not only around the globe, but right here in our own backyard,” said Joe W. Craver, CEO of the American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter. “It’s a little known fact that your Red Cross chapter responds to a local emergency nearly every 24 hours. This includes fires, floods, storms, search and rescue, landslides and hazardous material spills.”

All donations received through the site will automatically generate an email confirmation that serves as the official receipt for tax purposes.
