SCORE San Diego is increasing its already impressive workshop roster by offering new and existing business owners advice on government contracting.
The government contracting workshops help small business owners attain new customers and increase revenue by marketing to government agencies and securing new contracts.
"There are numerous myths about government contracting and many small business owners have gotten involved without fully understanding the process," said Keith Larson, chairman of SCORE San Diego's government workshops.
"We want small business owners to leave the government workshops with the information they need to help advance their business and expand their customer base," said Paul Hollenbach, previous chairman of SCORE San Diego's government workshops and past president of the San Diego Supplier Development Council. "Every government sector has a different set of requirements and SCORE San Diego will present them clearly and eliminate attendees' confusion about the complicated process."
SCORE San Diego's government workshops cover all facets of government contracting including marketing to the government, navigating through websites to obtain necessary information for contracts, and the registration and certification process.
"The first government contracting workshop is designed to help small business owners determine whether they really want to be involved with government contracting," said Larson. "We hope to provide an eye-opening experience to business owners at any experience level and show them the reality of government contracting. In addition, we will provide the knowledge and tools necessary to find contracting opportunities and submit bids."
Larson also offers a free, one-hour follow-up consultation to government workshops attendees who need feedback on a business proposal or advice on other business topics, and individual client follow-up is available to all workshop participants through SCORE San Diego's free, one-on-one mentoring program.
The government contracting workshops feature speakers who are experienced members of government agencies like the Navigation Safety Advisory Council and Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command.
"SCORE San Diego mentors small business owners at any experience level," said Hollenbach. "We hope to expand upon our current government contracting workshop topics to better inform local business owners of the benefits of government contracting and eventually help them through the complex process."
SCORE San Diego offers a full range of services to new and existing small business owners. The services include free one-on-one, confidential mentoring, low-cost workshops on 40 subjects; an extensive online business library and networking events.
