CLCA honors landscape contractors

The San Diego chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) recently honored 22 local landscape contractors with 2012 Beautification Awards for excellence in landscape installation and maintenance, best quality, construction, originality and attention to detail on 2011 projects.

Fifty-seven awards were presented in 31 categories culled from 126 entries, which encompassed categories covering residential and commercial landscape construction, maintenance and renovation, along with water features, outdoor lighting and water-saving, California-friendly landscaping.

Summit Services of Escondido won the Sweepstakes Award for best landscape renovation to the Weir Residence in Valley Center. The President's Award for best landscape installation went to Shasta Landscaping Inc. of San Marcos for its green roof at UCSD's Revelle College Apartments. The Judges' Award for commercial maintenance was presented to The Brickman Group of San Diego for its work at The Plaza in University Towne Center.

Multiple award winners included: Backyard Vacations of Carlsbad and Benchmark Landscape of Poway, six awards each; The Brickman Group of San Diego, Nature Designs Landscaping of Vista, Summit Services of San Diego and Torrey Pines Landscape of San Diego, five awards each; AAA Landscape Specialists of San Marcos, four awards; New Way Landscape & Tree Services of San Diego, and Shasta Landscaping of San Marcos, three awards each; and Brian Best/Garden Spirit and DeMaria Landtech, two awards each.

Other companies receiving a single award included: Bemus Landscape of San Diego, Ciro's Landscaping of Escondido, Columbine Landscape of Vista, Falling Waters Landscape of San Diego, H.A. Casillas Landscape of Bonita, JCMS Landscaping of Santee, Landscapes USA of San Diego, NPN Landscapes of Encinitas, O'Connell Landscape Maintenance of Carlsbad, Paradise Landscape of San Diego and Turner Landscapes of San Diego.

A first-place winner and second-place achievement award were presented, although not all categories warranted both types of awards.

* Residential Construction Large category: Backyard Vacations for the Martin Residence in Rancho Bernardo (winner); H.A. Casillas for the Russ/Gregory Residence in San Diego (achievement).

* Residential Construction Estate category: Turner Landscapes for the Grimstad Residence in Solana Beach (winner).

* Residential Maintenance category: Torrey Pines Landscape for the Mrs. Gail Kee Residence in La Jolla (winner); Nature Designs Landscaping for the Coastal Residence in Solana Beach (achievement).

* Residential Maintenance Large category: Columbine Landscape for Monte Verde in Rancho Santa Fe (winner); Torrey Pines Landscape for the Taliber Residence in La Jolla (winner); and Nature Designs Landscaping for the Buckenmayer Residence in Poway (achievement).

* Commercial Maintenance A category: The Brickman Group for Ventana Real in Carlsbad (winner); Benchmark Landscape for The Heights in San Diego (achievement).

* Commercial Maintenance B category: Benchmark Landscape for Saint Gabriel's Church in Poway (winner); New Way Landscape and Tree Services for Monteford in San Diego (achievement).

* Commercial Maintenance HOA category: O'Connell Landscape Maintenance for the Eureka Springs HOA in Escondido (winner); The Brickman Group for Allure at Scripps Ranch (achievement).

* Commercial Maintenance Large HOA category: New Way Landscape and Tree Services for the Anchor Cove HOA in San Diego (winner).

* Commercial Maintenance E category: Landscapes USA for Renaissance at La Jolla, Master Association (winner); Bemus Landscape for Paradise Point in San Diego (achievement).

* Public Works Maintenance category: Shasta Landscaping for the Revelle College Apartments at UCSD in La Jolla (winner).

* Landscape Renovation category: Nature Designs Landscaping for the Buckenmayer Residence in Poway (winner); AAA Landscape Specialists for the Woods Residence in San Diego (achievement).

* Landscape Renovation Medium category: Nature Designs Landscaping for the Coastal Residence in Solana Beach (winner); Backyard Vacations for the Martin Residence in Rancho Bernardo (achievement).

* Landscape Renovation Large category: Backyard Vacations for the Kevin Small Residence in Carlsbad (winner); Ciro's Landscape for the Lettieri Residence in San Diego (achievement).

* Landscape Renovation Estate category: Summit Services for the Dussin Residence in Carlsbad (winner); DeMaria LandTech for the Savitt Residence in Carlsbad (achievement).

* Commercial Construction category: Benchmark Landscape for the Saint Gabriel's Church in Poway (winner).
