Headquartered in San Diego since its beginnings as ProFlowers in 1998, Provide Commerce is a leading online provider of high-quality gifts backed by superior customer service. From fresh flowers, chocolates and sweets, to jewelry, accessories and other unique gifts, its brands offer a variety of great gifts for anyone’s budget. Provide Commerce turned the industry on its head with a revolutionary disruptive business model that eliminated multiple intermediaries from the supply chain, lowering costs and passing the savings on to their customers. With a company mission rooted in helping customers celebrate life’s special moments by delivering a “wow” experience, Provide Commerce hopes to make each gift-giver a hero in the eyes of the recipient. Now encompassing the brands ProFlowers, ProPlants, Shari’s Berries, Cherry Moon Farms, RedEnvelope and Personal Creations, the team strives to continually innovate and improve the customer’s experience, inspiring unprecedented brand loyalty and passion.

A major part of Provide Commerce’s success is thanks to Blake Bilstad and his top-notch legal team, who handles all legal issues — ranging from commercial contracts, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, to governmental compliance, privacy, securities, SEC, intellectual property, real estate leasing, Internet law, human resources and corporate matters — to name just a few. Legal also leads the public affairs and corporate communications functions for the business. Acting as a business partner with the organization, the legal department works with other internal teams to provide creative solutions to all varieties of business matters and issues, in addition to providing pertinent legal counsel and shaping the company’s corporate public presence.

Before joining Provide Commerce, Bilstad worked with Vivendi Universal Net U.S.A. (owned by Vivendi Universal S.A., a French entertainment and telecommunications conglomerate). He previously held a variety of legal positions at MP3.com, Inc., including vice president of corporate legal affairs, secretary and corporate counsel. He also served as a business associate at the law firm of Cooley Godward LLP.

Bilstad holds a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was the executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and winner of the Irving Oberlin Memorial Award writing prize. He also earned a B.A. magna cum laude from Duke University. Despite (or perhaps because of) his impressive credentials, Bilstad’s motto is: “Don’t take yourself seriously, but always take your work seriously.”

One of his favorite parts about working at Provide Commerce is the company’s focus on giving back. Each year, Provide Commerce contributes hundreds of thousands of dollars, countless stems of flowers, and mountains of sweet treats to the people and communities they serve. Provide Commerce’s charity efforts are focused on the primary categories of children and education, women’s causes, support of our military, and finally, local community and employee causes.
