Jan. 8: IE SBDC: Independent Contractor vs. Employee (EDD). 9:00am-12:30pm. As an employer, it is to your advantage to know your obligations and understand the California payroll reporting requirements. Join us for an informative seminar on California employment tax law, presented by the CA State Employment Development Department. Topics to be discussed include: the factors that make a worker an employee; the basics of statutory employment; the unique reporting requirements for independent contractors. Jan. 8: Tri-Tech SBDC CEO Storytelling with Steve Espinosa. 5:30pm-7:00pm. Talk about your local legend! Steve’s been on a tear since he tested out of high school at 16 and started coming up with new ways to make money. Steve is active as an investor in several angel groups, and is currently the co-founder of Single Oak Ventures, where he is raising a fund to invest in startups and early stage companies. Jan. 12: State Board of Equalization: Basic Sales and Use Tax. 9:00am-11:00am. All small business owners, entrepreneurs, and budding entrepreneurs are invited to attend this free workshop. Jan. 14: TVE2 Pitch Practice. 11:30am-1:00pm. Calling all tech startup entrepreneurs. Come and practice your investor pitch in a fun and friendly environment. Networking and lunch at 11:30am.
