Our company is proud to be a team member of the Turner PCL Flatiron joint venture that built the new Terminal 2 West expansion. We were responsible for the design and construction of the Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems for this ambitious and exciting project.
We enlisted the engineering services of URS, a worldwide engineering firm experienced in airport design and engineering. An additional requirement of this project was to provide Building Information Modeling (BIM) at a Level 5 stage of design. Our company was assigned the responsibility of taking the lead position of coordinating this design effort and implementing the BIM processes. This work was successfully performed by our in-house BIM department.
In addition to the terminal expansion, we were later awarded the design-build central utility plant expansion increasing the air conditioning capacity from 3,200 tons of air conditioning to 5,000 tons. The energy efficiency measures employed in this expansion enabled the project to elevate itself from a LEED Silver to LEED Gold project. We owe much of our success on this project to the leadership of Turner Construction Company in their management and coordination of all the trades involved in constructing this monumental project.
